How many sessions will I need?
There’s no reliable way to predict the exact number from a photograph. Jo will assess how your tattoo is responding as your treatment progresses.
BODY TATTOOS
These vary considerably. Some may need around 3–5 sessions, others up to 10, while more resistant tattoos can take 10–20 sessions.
PMU (EYEBROWS)
Can often be removed in 2–3 sessions.
What to expect
Quick and convenient appointments
Treatment itself is usually quick - approx 15 minutes average - with appointment length depending on the size of your tattoo.
Back to normal afterwards
You can go back to work and most normal daily activities straight away. Avoid the gym and strenuous exercise for around 24–48 hours.
Tailored treatment in stages
Sessions are spaced 6-8 weeks apart to allow your skin to recover and your body time to clear the treated pigment.

FAQ
How does laser tattoo removal work?
Laser energy targets the tattoo pigment and breaks it into tiny particles. Your body gradually clears these particles naturally, fading the tattoo over a series of treatments.
Does tattoo removal hurt?
You will feel the laser, but treatment is usually very quick. The sensation is often compared to an elastic band snapping against the skin.
Can you tell me how many sessions I'll need if I send a photo?
Unfortunately not. A photo can't reliably show how a tattoo will respond to laser treatment.
As a guide, eyebrow PMU often takes 2–3 sessions, while body tattoos can take anywhere from 3–20 sessions. Jo will assess your progress as you go.
Do you remove eyebrow tattoos?
Yes. Jo offers laser removal of eyebrow permanent makeup and microblading.
We don't offer laser removal of eyeliner or lip permanent makeup.
Can I go back to work after tattoo removal?
Yes. You can usually return to work and normal daily activities straight away.
We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise and the gym for 24–48 hours.
Can I have laser treatment just to fade my tattoo for a cover-up?
Yes. You don't have to remove the tattoo completely. Laser can be used to fade the existing tattoo to give your tattoo artist more options for a new design.

Does my skin type or a suntan affect laser tattoo removal?
Yes. Laser tattoo removal targets pigment, so the melanin naturally present in your skin also needs to be considered.
For safety, Jo does not offer laser tattoo removal on darker skin types where there is a greater risk of the laser affecting the skin's natural pigment. Your suitability will be assessed using the Fitzpatrick Skin Type Scale before treatment.
Treatment also can't be carried out on tanned or sunburned skin. Please avoid sun exposure, sunbeds and fake tan on the area being treated and wait until your skin has completely returned to its natural colour before your appointment.
After treatment, keep the area protected from direct sunlight while it heals and use a high-SPF sunscreen when exposed.
